Heart block occurs when the signal that controls a heartbeat is partially or entirely blocked from reaching the ventricle. Heart block appears in the first, second, or third-degree depending on the impairment levels. The first-degree case is when the heartbeat is slower than the standard rate. The second degree is when the heart is more lifeless and sometimes may skip a beat, and in the third degree, the electric signal is not sent from the atria to the ventricles. The causes of heart blocks vary from heart failure, cardiomyopathy, heart diseases like ventricular tachycardia or heart attack like the ventricular fibrillation. The block can also be a result of exposure to bacteria, that is why when one is sick, it is crucial to visit a physician. An artificial pacemaker set in the chest can help regulate the abnormal rhythm of the heart.
