English 101 – Essay #2: Rhetorical Analysis
Pick one or our readings. Explain it, then argue that they are either vaild points or invalid points. Use evidence from any of our readings or anything you’ve read, any films you’ve seen, current events, etc. If you like, instead of focusing on just one article, you can analyze 2 or 3 that are similar and assess how they use evidence differently to make a point about monsters.
You will need a Works Cited page with the article you are analyzing cited as well as any other outside sources you’ve used. You cannot use Wikipedia or any other basic authorless info site like about.com or wisegeek.com.
Organization:
Intro: Introduce the article by giving the author’s full name, full title of article, and any info about the author and when/where it was first published (Google it to find info). Briefly summarize the article, then identify the main points you’re focusing on. Your thesis statement should assert whether or not the main points are valid.
Body: Explain each main point and provide evidence for what you are saying in your thesis using anything you’ve seen or read that pertains to it. You don’t need a zillion sources, but you should have some multiple quotes for each main point as well as your own logic.
NOTE: You don’t have to only use essays, books, TV, websites for support. You can use images of monsters from film posters or book covers.
Conclusion: Conclusions draw larger implications. You can begin it by restating your thesis if you like, but you need to take it to the next level by discussing why the info you provided is important. How does it relate to society? Is there something that can be learned from it? Do you need to warn people about the future or make a prediction about the future of monsters or horror?

A Writer’s Memo is a separate page that explain how the process of writing the essay went for you, why you chose the topic (or anything else you’d like to say about writing the essay such as the easiest and/or most difficult part), your final draft’s strengths and weaknesses, anything else you’d like me to know about it, and what you predict will be your grade. The last part is very important in learning self-assessment. That’s why I underlined it.
