I. What does Personal Leadership Mean?
There are two dimensions to this question. The first, “What is leadership?” is a general question. Use this question to begin to explore, through reading and dialogue, the ideas that other people have on leadership. The second, “What does leadership mean to me?” is designed to make the first question more personal. It is the transition between an abstract understanding of leadership, and the attributes of and beliefs about leadership that you will internalize and make your own.
IIa. What is Leadership?
Using the course content and readings that you select, describe your understanding of the nature of leadership. Leadership is a topic on which many articles and books have been written. There are clearly many ways of thinking about leadership and of approaching the development of leadership skills. In your reading and study, what is your understanding of leadership?
IIb. What Does Leadership Mean to Me?
Having thought about and reflected on the ideas of others, begin to internalize your thoughts on leadership and give it personal meaning. This is both a self-centered and other-centered exercise. Self-centered in the sense of making meaning for yourself, and other-centered in the sense of beginning to gain insight into the impact you have on others.
